Think you, or someone you know, has what it takes to put Thailand on the global map? The search is on for the next generation of Thailand’s goodwill ambassadors, as nominations open for the fourth annual Thailand Public Diplomacy Awards.

Launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Thailand Foundation, the prestigious awards recognise individuals, groups, and organisations whose efforts have elevated Thailand’s reputation abroad. Whether through culture, humanitarian work, innovation, sport, or public interest projects, the awards aim to celebrate those who make the world see Thailand in a brighter light.

Nominations officially opened yesterday, April 23, and will run until July 25. And here’s the kicker, anyone can be nominated, from any country. You can even nominate yourself, so long as you have the consent of the nominee.

At the launch press conference, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nikorndej Balankura, the Director General of the Department of Information and spokesperson for the ministry, stressed that diplomacy isn’t just for diplomats.

“This award not only honours those who have built a strong reputation for Thailand, but also aims at inspiring everyone to realise their potential in making Thailand known on the global stage.”

Tharit Charungvat, Secretary General of the Thailand Foundation, echoed the sentiment, saying the awards go beyond simply recognising past achievements.

“We want the new generation to understand that contributing to the nation, the Thai people and Thai identity is not solely the duty of officials or diplomats, but that they too can play a valuable role.”

The growing popularity of the awards speaks for itself. In just three years, nominations have jumped from seven in year one to 21 last year, and organisers expect even more this time around.

Winners will receive more than just applause: each recipient will walk away with a cash prize of 300,000 baht, a Certificate of Honour, their name engraved on the iconic Goodwill trophy, and a spot on the prestigious Wall of Fame at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported Thai PBS World.

Awardees will be announced in September, with the official ceremony slated for later in the year.

So, whether you’re a cultural champion, a humanitarian hero, or a sports star with heart, now’s your chance to shine for Thailand.
